Raymond P. Hebert

Ordained: 1952

Over a span of years, numerous former residents of Madonna Manor sued the Archdiocese of New Orleans, alleging that various priests, nuns and staff workers abused them both physically and sexually while living at the Catholic shelter.

Four men named Hebert, a senior pastor and church administrator, among the list of individuals accused of abusing Madonna Manor residents.  Hebert denied the allegations and filed a defamation suit against his accusers and sought to have the accusations publicly withdrawn. Hebert asserted in court filings that he visited the institutions to deal with staff rather than the children.

In 2010, the attorneys for the accusers later filed an acknowledgment with the court stating that Hebert did not abuse the attorneys’ clients when they were child residents at Madonna Manor. Hebert withdrew his defamation lawsuit thereafter. Hebert passed away in 2014.
