Lawrence Dark
Ordained: 1952
Lawrence Dark served as the chaplain at Warren Easton Senior High School in New Orleans. He also was an assistant pastor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Mid-City. Dark had a mission to open a home for troubled boys in Louisiana. In 1960, he opened the Reynolds Institute which later became the Bill Anderson Boys Town in Ponchatoula (also known as the William E. Anderson Memorial Boys Town). Dark died in 1984.
The Congregation of Holy Cross added Dark’s name to a list of credible accused abusers. The Congregation said it received allegations in 1994 and 2008 regarding accusations of Dark abusing minors in the 1960’s and 1970’s in New Orleans. Following suit, the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge added Dark’s name to their abusive clergy lists.
