Richard Raphael Archer
Ordained: 1958
Named publicly in 2019 as having allegations of sexual abuse of a minor deemed “established” by the Dominican Friars Province of St. Joseph’s Provincial Review Board. Archer became part of the Province of St. Martin de Porres (headquartered in Metairie) at its formation in 1979. He is known to have often officiated services at Ponchatoula’s St. Joseph Catholic Church in the 1990s, as well as to have presided over services at a Ponchatoula funeral home. Despite the Province removing him from public ministry in 2002, the Province allowed him to continue as a “priest in residence” at the St. Dominic Priory, a priory attached to the St. Dominic School serving pre-K through 7th grade students on Harrison Avenue and Memphis Street. In March 2019, after SNAP published an article highlighting Archer’s continued residency, the Province removed him from the Priory.
